Impossible

Welcome to the impossible lesson.  Please feel free to use your own graphics for this tutorial.  To use the ones shown here, click here to download the zipped file.  To preview this lesson, please click here.

1.  Insert a background.  The one used is blue-checkerboard.jpg.  This does not scroll.

2.  Insert a positioned container and set all of the edges to 0.  Under this container, insert a left, right, bottom and top container.  Make sure that all of these named containers are lined up evenly and indented under the main container.  Under each one of these place a 1 pixel inset frame, default color or color of your choice.  Also, under each one of these named containers, insert a background.  The one used here is blue-checkerboard-2.jpg.  None of these backgrounds are to scroll.

3.  Insert a new main positioned container (it goes all the way over at the left) and set all of it's edges to 15.

4.  Under this container insert a 2 pixel outset frame, default color or color of your choice.  Insert a background and use blue-checkerboard-2.jpg.  Non-scrolling.

5.  Click on the positioned container that you just made and copy it.  Paste this back at the bottom, making sure that it is over at the left margin, which as you know by now, makes this one a main container.  Change the settings to 35 from all edges.  Change the background to blue-checkerboard.jpg.  Change the frame to 4 inset, default color or color of your choice.

6.  Paste this container once more, move it over to the left and change the edges to all be 55.  The background here is the first one, so you should not have to change it, blue-checkerboard-2.jpg.  Change the frame to 2 outset, default color or color of your choice.

7.  Again, paste this container and set all of the edges to 60.  Change the background to blue-checkerboard.jpg.  Change the frame to 4 inset, default color or color of your choice.

8.  Paste this one more time and change the edge settings to 80.  Use the blue-checkerboard.jpg image.  Change the frame to 4 inset, default color or color of your choice.

9.  Insert a new main positioned container, make sure it is over at the left margin, and set all of it's edges to 0.

10.  Now under this we will insert several positioned containers.  The first one should be set horizontal from the left with a distance of 90, size of 5.  Now set the top and bottom edges to 90.  Put in a background, blue-checkerboard-2.jpg and set this to scroll up and left.

11.  Copy that sub-container which has a background and paste it under the last main container four more times.  The last thing you should now have is a main container with five sub-containers, each with it's own background.

12.  Change the second sub-container to 100 distance horizontally and edges should now be changed to 100.  Change the third one to 110 for horizontal distance and edges, change the fourth one to 120, change the fifth one to 130!  Each time you change the horizontal distance, also change the edge settings to the same number.

13.  Now click on the main container which holds all of the sub-containers that you just made and copy it.  Paste it back at the bottom and move it over to the left.

14.  Change the horizontal to be 'from the right'.  Change all of the backgrounds to scroll right and up!  This now gives you two sets, one on the left and one on the right.

15.  Insert a new main positioned container.  This one will hold ten sub-containers, instead of doing two more, I put them all into one main container.  It doesn't really matter here, you can do two if you want to keep your top and bottom separated.  Each one needs to be set at 0 from all edges.  This is simply a 'holding' main container and when you do it this way it makes copying and pasting a lot easier.

16.  If you want, copy one of the sub-containers with it's background and paste it into this new main container ten times.  I will give you the settings for each one.  Basically it is the same as the others except we will set the left and right edges of this one instead of the top and bottom edges.  The numbers will be the same.

17.  #1 Left-right edges to 90.  Vertical 90 from the top with a size of 5.
#2 Left-right edges to 90.  Vertical 90 from the bottom with a size of 5.
#3 Left-right edges to 100.  Vertical 100 from the top with a size of 5.
#4 Left-right edges to 100.  Vertical 100 from the bottom with a size of 5.
#5 Left-right edges to 110.  Vertical 110 from the top with a size of 5.
#6 Left-right edges to 110.  Vertical 110 from the bottom with a size of 5.
#7 Left-right edges to 120.  Vertical 120 from the top with a size of 5.
#8 Left-right edges to 120.  Vertical 120 from the bottom with a size of 5.
#9 Left-right edges to 130.  Vertical 130 from the top with a size of 5.
#10 Left-right edges to 130.  Vertical 130 from the bottom with a size of 5.

18.  All of these containers use the background called blue-checkerboard-2.jpg.  If the container is set from the top, scroll the background up.  If it is set from the bottom, scroll it down.

19.  Insert a new main container (make sure it is at the left margin) and set all of the edges to 140.

20.  Put in a background and use the blue-checkerboard-2.jpg, non-scrolling.  Now add in a 2 pixel inset frame using the color #004668.

21.  Copy and paste that container as a new main container.  Set the edges to 145.  Set the background to color only and use #0080C0.

22.  Now insert a positioned image.  This goes to the left margin and does NOT sit under the container you just did on #21.  Use the graphic called bluecheck-main.jpg.  This goes 160 from the top vertically and it is centered horizontally.

23.  Our message area is next.  Set the margins to 160 for the left, right and the bottom.  Use 425 from the top.  Center your text.  The text color is #C6ECFF.  The scrollbar color is #0080C0.

24.  Insert your ticker next, if you'd like to use one.  Then insert a sound.  The one used here is called fineflwr.mid.

25.  The last thing to add if desired, is a loading message.  I inserted one and set it to 1.5.

That is it!  If you followed the instructions and put your containers in the right places, you should now have something exactly like the finished product!  Although this looks complicated, being able to copy and paste your containers makes it a lot less difficult!  I hope yours turned out well!
